Achievements of Honourable Shrimati Justice B S Indrakala

Justice B.S. Indrakala (Bangalore Shamachar Indrakala) began her legal career shortly after earning her bachelor of law degree from Sharada Vilas Law College. Over the years, Justice B.S. Indrakala has held multiple judicial and legal roles, demonstrating expertise in civil, labour, criminal, and constitutional law.

Her judicial service includes appointments as district and sessions judge in Tumkur, chief judge for the Court of Small Causes in Bangalore, and principal judge for Karnataka Family Courts. Justice Indrakala has also served in similar capacities in Raichur and Bangalore Rural districts, achieving noteworthy milestones.

Between 1982 and 1993, while practising law in Bangalore, she gained recognition for her commitment to upholding individual rights and liberties, earning her the title of the leading woman attorney in the city. Another milestone was when serving in various courts across Karnataka; Justice Indrakala became the second woman in Karnataka's judiciary to be appointed as a district and sessions judge, marking a historic advancement for women in the legal profession.

In 1999, Justice Indrakala was honoured to participate in the Judicial Training Program at Coventry, UK, for Indian Judicial Officers. As part of the Indo-British Judicial Sensitization Program, this training, conducted at the University of Warwick, focused on gender and law. Relatedly, she has spoken on laws relating to women's rights at various spaces, including a special address on International Women's Day. She has also been a guest speaker at events such as World Consumer Rights Day and the FICCI-KPMG Conference in Bengaluru.
